Default Magna TS 2.6 ECI-Multi Control Relay Location

    Hi
My '94 Magna 2.6L 4cyl is blowing smoke and using a bit of oil. Thought it could be valve stem seals as they are apparently notorious for hardening and causing oil to leak down valve stems. Any way it might be rings so I want to do a compression test. The manual says to disconnect the coil primary lead - I guess that is the main lead going from coil to distributor. It also says to disconnect the ECI-Multi control relay to prevent fuel injection. Can anyone tell me where that relay is located? I know how to do the rest of the compression test.
    Cheers

You have to pull the ECI fuse. On the fuse box cover, look for the one that says ECI. Here's a picture:

    Hi
Thanks for the response. Sorry I was waiting for email to notify me but one never came, so I just went online to check.
I was looking in that fuse box, but the manual said to disconnect the relay. I guess that fuse will do it!!!
    Cheers

Car has done 180,000 Km. Compression test came up good I believe. Cylinders range from 172 to 186 psi (all within 10% and close to spec 188psi). The car runs well, and plugs looked beautiful. I have always suspected the problem may be valve stem seals. The previous owner did not do many Ks and perhaps this helped cause valve stem seals to dry out. Does this sound like a reasonable conclusion? The only other thing I can imagine is the ECU making the engine run too rich. I did replace the ISC at one stage when I was having idling problems.

PS I am still not getting emails when people comment on my thread. I must have something set up wrong. I would reply straight away if I got notified - sorry.

    Default the Fix

    good compression there
yes valve stem seals will be hard and dry

with the right tools /equipment you can replace the valve stem seals without removing the head

timing chains cogs and guides replace at 200,000 k
if the engine had been sitting unused the chains would have sagged

Pretty sure I have those settings as you outlined. I will double check, thanks.
Yes I have those settings. So when I post a thread do I also have to do something to add it to subscribed threads? I don't seem to get that option? Must be overlooking something. This forum is so great but I never get notified and hence am late to respond to people.
